Heat pump at Saarioinen Group's factory
Since January 2010 Scancool's HP291 heat pump has been producing heat at Saarioinen Group's factory in Sahalahti, Finland.
Saarioinen has outsourced the heat and cooling plants of its production facilities in Sahalahti to Fortum Corporation. The heat pump installed in the cooling plant of the convenience food factory was invested by Fortum and supplied by Scancool. Scancool also designed the heat pump system of the project.
– The project – which was carried out in intense tripartite co-operation – has worked out as expected, says Olavi Virtanen, the technical manager of Saarioinen.
– We have had a good collaboration with Fortum for a longer period of time and we especially appreciate the way Fortum sees matters from the perspective of its clients.
Energy saving is guaranteed income
Mr. Virtanen and Mr. Pertti Sairiala, the chief of factory services at Saarioinen, say that Saarioinen had negative experiences of heat pumps several years ago. The technology used by Scancool and the positive information from the pilot project of the Snellman Company encouraged us to try again. The co-operation with Scancool has met the expectations.
– The slogan of Saarioinen is "tasty meals from pure nature", so environmental concerns are important to us. The heat pump considerably decreases fuel oil consumption and carbon dioxide emissions. Irrespective of economic fluctuations, it always pays to invest in energy efficiency. We are currently examining ways to utilize Scancool's heat pump technology at our other plants, Virtanen says.
